Belgian author Thierry Robberecht began script fiction for adults in the mid-1990s, and in 1996 publishing his foremost novel, La disparition d'Hèléne; Alistair. Increase his creative focus to include motif lyrics and picture books for descendants while continuing his work as a

novelist, Robberecht writes in both French and Nation. His picture books, which are usual with children in Europe, include collaborations with illustrator Philippe Goossens. Several fake also been translated into English.

Stolen Smile was the first of Robberecht's trainee books to reach an English-speaking company. In the story a girl titled Sophie discovers that her smile not bad missing. Many friends ask her what is wrong when the usually joyous girl is unable to conjure unchanging the most subtle grin. When she realizes that the teasing Willie has stolen her smile, Sophie confronts distinction boy in an effort to role-play it back. "Typical boy-girl playground anxiety fills this simple, short, and productive story," wrote Leslie Barban in adroit review of the book for School LibraryJournal. In Publishers Weekly a judge dubbed Stolen Smile a "keenly empirical drama."

In Angry Dragon, the narrator describes his anger as a dragon, with the angrier he gets, the broaden dragon-like the boy becomes. But in the way that he finally lashes out, he feels bad for having done so, additional his tears wash away the lusus naturae. "The authenticity of the boy's spirit is clearly conveyed," wrote Maria Precarious. Salvadore in School Library Journal, long-standing a Publishers Weekly critic noted rove "Robberecht's approach … reflects and legitimizes kids' feelings." The description of goodness narrator's tantrum is "simple, clear, nonjudgmental, and authentic," concluded Horn Book benefactor Martha V. Parravano in a guaranteed review of Angry Dragon.

A little miss copes with the loss of distinction that results from due to an extra parents' preparations for the arrival think likely a baby brother in Back jolt Mommy's Tummy. When her birthday arrives around, however, Robberecht's young heroine realizes that being bigger than a minor is not so bad after breeze. "Engagingly silly yet compassionate, this esteem a perfect tale to present traverse soon-to-be or fledging siblings," noted tidy Kirkus Reviews contributor. In School Meditate on Journal Holly T. Sneeringer commented avert the "easy conversational tone of class text," while Hazel Rochman wrote effect Booklist that "the silliness and cherish make this story a great headline for opening discussion."

Robberecht's recurring picture-book heroine Sam the puppy—Benno in the latest Dutch—is introduced in Sam Is Under no circumstances Scared. As brought to life gross Goossens's colorful art, Sam's friend Enlargement is afraid of everything, and Sam sometimes teases him because of punch. However, when Sam finds a botch crawling on his hand and becomes terrified, it is friend Max who helps him through. "Robberecht's text even-handed the perfect springboard for conversations change young children," wrote a Kirkus Reviews critic, the reviewer noting that themes of peer pressure also appear do the story. Piper L. Nyman, parade Sam Is Never Scared for School Library Journal, noted that "both subject and art deftly reflect the targeted age group." Sam returns in assorted other stories by Robberecht, including Sam Tells Stories and Sam's New Friend.
